To start your coffee brand in Bulgaria, lock in four pillars fast: legal setup, food compliance, supply chain, and sales infrastructure. Register an EOOD/OOD in the Commercial Register (min. capital 2 BGN), pick NACE 10.83 (tea/coffee processing), open a business bank account, and secure a UIC. File Food Business Operator registration with the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA), implement a HACCP plan, and ensure any roasting/packing site is approved—home kitchens won’t pass. If importing, obtain an EORI, classify products under CN 0901, and use a customs broker; unroasted coffee generally enters the EU at 0% duty while roasted can be dutiable, then 20% BG VAT applies. Labels must follow EU 1169/2011 and be in Bulgarian: product name, net quantity, origin (if claimed), best-before, storage/use, batch/lot, and responsible operator address; add organic logo only with accredited certification. Build quality control (SCA cupping, moisture/defect checks), specify roast profiles, and use oxygen-barrier bags with one-way valves and lot traceability.
